Abstract
The present paper examines the development and planning of several residential districts in Sofia after 1960, as well as the urban planning principles applied to the location of preschool institutions within them. It represents a continuation of the author’s previous publication, which focuses on the earlier stage of planning for the capital’s neighbourhoods and their infrastructure. The aim is to compare the approved urban development plans with their actual implementation today.
The analysis encompasses the factors determining the conditions for establishing and situating preschool institutions, as well as the stages of development of individual residential areas. Examples of housing complexes and their planning solutions regarding kindergartens are presented, with emphasis placed on the influencing factors and the role of these institutions within the overall urban planning concept.
