Abstract
Service design has established tools for designing experiences
which contain predictable waits. But millions of people experi-
ence waits with no clear duration, such as those in healthcare,
immigration, legal and welfare systems. This article proposes
that the ‘unbounded wait’ is not a gap between touchpoints but
a place people inhabit, and argues it deserves designers.
